The Traveling Puzzle
This puzzle has traveled. Originally bought in the United States, I took it to Mexico last summer when I met up with my mom. I know she loves owls and I thought it would be a good bonding activity for us to complete during our time together. I wasn't doing puzzles frequently so this three hundred piece puzzle took longer than expected the first time around. And shortly after we put it together, we had to put it away because it was taking up too much space.
My mom packed the puzzle to take it back to Peru with her in hopes of rebuilding it and getting it framed. Nine months later and she hasn't opened the box again. My mom's not really good with puzzles. She doesn't understand the concept very well and her ADHD doesn't let her sit still.
During my latest visit when I mentioned my puzzle hobby, it reminded her about the owl puzzle and she desperately asked me to help her build it. We bought the white base board for 15 soles1. We tried going to a few stores and libraries to look for ModPodge, but they gave me a weird look because that doesn't exist here, and people don't buy puzzles for hobbies -- only for learning. I'l have to send her some when I get back so that she can glue the puzzle together. Then, all she has to do is take it back to the glass store to get it framed.
This go-around, she put a lot more pieces together including the final two pieces. I'm happy to she took part in one of my favorite hobbies. It made me feel really connected. I'm going to miss my momma. Now, we both return to our daily routines and lives. We're used to this life now which makes our time together much more sacred and special. Til' next time mamá. I'll miss you.
